Joyful laughter works like meditation

Morris County, NJ–On June 10th, seniors at Visiting Nurse Association took time out of their day to join in an enlightening session of Laughter Therapy with Laughter guru Pradep Nair of HomeWell Senior Care. Nair led the group in a round of laughter therapy and discussed with attendees the fact that laughter has been shown to have similar benefits to meditation.

So if you have not had time to sit and breathe lately, you might want to change your habits. New research from a study presented at the 2014 Experimental Biology conference in San Diego suggests that a good laugh now and then may give you a mental boost similar to meditation. “Joyful laughter immediately produces the same brain wave frequencies experienced by people in a true meditative state,” said Lee Berk, lead researcher of the study and associate professor of pathology and human anatomy at Loma Linda University.
