Human Race’s Only Effective Weapon: Laughter
Mark Twain captured the positive effects of laughter succinctly when he wrote – “The human race has only one really effective weapon, and that’s laughter. The moment it arises, all of our hardness yields, all irritations and resentment slips away, and a sunny spirit takes their place.”
On July 10th, Pradep Nair of HomeWell Senior Care visited the Recreation Department of the Township of Springfield to host a Laughter Yoga session for the seniors at Raymond Chisholm Community Center.
Norman Cousin, a writer and editor of the Saturday Review, wrote “Anatomy of an Illness” in 1964 to describe how laughter has helped his recovery from ankylosing spondylitis, a very painful collagen illness that attacks the connective tissues of the body. He discovered that 10 minutes of genuine belly laughter had an anesthetic effect and would give him at least two hours of pain-free sleep.
