What You Should Look For in a Caregiver

We make sure our personal assistants love what they do (we refer to our caregivers as personal assistants because, for many seniors, receiving "care" can seem embarrassing and can erode self-dignity). When they love what they do, you will love having them care for your loved ones. Here are some of the things you should look for in a caregiver for your family.

1. A Smile. Does your caregiver walk in with a smile? A caregiver’s smile can change everything for the family. Smiles are contagious! If your caregiver walks into the room with a smile, you’ll smile too. Smiles put people at ease and make them feel comfortable.

2. Patience. A good caregiver will always be patient, with your family member and with the whole family. She will let you explain things to her, and spend as much time as it takes for you to feel comfortable.

3. Trust. You must have a caregiver that you can trust. Our caregivers genuinely love what they do, and that love for caring for your family member will earn your trust. When you go home at night, you will truly feel that our caregivers care for your loved one. Our goal is for you to feel that you can trust them, so that you can go home comfortable with the knowledge that your loved one is in excellent hands.

4. A listening ear. Your caregiver should be an excellent listener! Our caregivers will listen to your family members, whether they’re talking about something happening right now or something far back in their memories. We understand that sometimes your loved ones really need someone to listen to them. We listen with compassion.

So when we walk into your family member’s room, we will smile, we will listen, we will be patient with all of you, and we will earn your trust. We love what we do and we want you to love us, and feel certain that we are caring for your family member just like we would our own family! If you know someone who would love to have a personal assistant, please have them call us!
